According to People, Sam Taylor-Johnson, 58, the acclaimed director known for Fifty Shades of Grey, chose to commemorate her husband’s special day by sharing intimate photographs on Instagram. The images captured their private moments during card game nights, showing her perspective from across the table.
“Happy Birthday Mon Amour,” wrote Sam in her Instagram post, adding heart emojis and “Je t’aime” to express her affection for her husband of twelve years. The French phrases, translating to “my love” and “I love you,” reflect the romantic nature of their relationship.
The couple’s enduring relationship continues to strengthen
Taylor-Johnson first met during the filming of “Nowhere Boy” in 2009, beginning a relationship that has fascinated the public due to their 23-year age gap, in Sam’s directorial debut in which Aaron starred. Their professional relationship evolved into a personal one, leading to their marriage in 2012. The couple recently celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary in June 2022 with a vow renewal ceremony, which Aaron described as “the most beautiful day,” surrounded by their closest friends and family.
Their family life includes four children: daughters Romy, 13, and Wylda, 14, whom they share together, along with Angelica and Jessie from Sam’s previous marriage to Jay Jopling. Aaron has been vocal about his dedication to fatherhood, expressing in a 2023 Esquire interview that he had always known he would be a young father with a large family.
The couple’s relationship extends beyond their initial professional connection. In the same Esquire interview, Aaron emphasized that while they collaborate well together, their bond transcends their creative partnership. He stated explicitly that their working relationship was not the foundation of their romance, saying, “I met Sam as actor and director. I think we’re really great at collaborating. But that’s not why I fell in love with her.”

Earlier this year, Aaron reciprocated his wife’s sentiments by sharing photos from their travels together for Sam’s birthday in March, expressing his love for “spending every moment” with her.
