During last week’s DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League special on The CW, Warner Bros. rolled out a string of teases for its budding DC Extended Universe, while on the TV side of things the network trumpeted the arrival of superhero ensemble piece Legends of Tomorrow.

It was, without question, something of a media blowout from The CW and Warner Bros. across both respective mediums, but what of mooted talk of a potential crossover? Hosted by renown comic book fan and filmmaker Kevin Smith, DC Films Presents was an opportunity to lay the groundwork for the years to come for both film and TV, though Smith also teased the possibility of WB integrating all projects under the one umbrella.

Per Comic Book Resources, Smith entertained the idea of Grant Gustin – the actor who boasts the title of the Fastest Man Alive for The CW – appearing in Warner Bros.’ planned 2018 feature that’s set to star Ezra Miller, or indeed vice versa. Here’s what he had to say on the matter at hand:

“We did a piece [on ‘Dawn Of The Justice League’] where we talked about — I don’t know how much I’m supposed to say because they cut it out, but the idea [came up] of, ‘Hey man, DC is known for nothing if not a multiverse,’ so at which point I was like [to Geoff Johns], ‘Could they [frick]ing crossover?’ And he was like, ‘Ahh.’ So doors are being left open and stuff like that. Think about this, you can have Ezra Miller be the Flash and you could also have Grant be the Flash, because there’s a multiverse at work.

While it’s certainly a grand and tantalizing concept, Warner Bros. and The CW would need to hash out some serious logistics if such a multiverse could ever materialize, particularly now that the film slate has been mapped out all the way up to Green Lantern Corps in 2020.

The Flash is currently in the thick of its sophomore season on The CW, while Ezra Miller will portray Barry Allen for Warner’s standalone feature in 2018. But the real jumping off point for the DC Extended Universe is Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is primed to swoop into theaters on March 25.
