President Trump’s army parade is still scheduled for this weekend, and without prompting or questioning, he has chosen to share that if there are any people who see this as an opportunity to protest, they will be quickly reminded that his istration doesn’t respect your rights like you think they should.
CNN reports that the military parade won’t be anything that’s been seen in decades. They’ve described the day as “7 million pounds of history on the move.” The celebration of the army has been brewing for about two years to commemorate 250 years of the US Army. But the Trump istration shoehorned a parade into the celebration and fixed the date to fall on his birthday. A coincidence, supposedly.
This has not been Trump’s first attempt to get a parade. He may claim that his main priority is cutting government expenditure, but even in his first term, he was trying to get a parade to happen, only for it to be shelved due to the $100m price tag. That’s not even mentioning the damages that were expected on Washington DC roads.
This new parade, however, is expected to be slightly smaller and relatively cheaper. It will still involve 7,000 soldiers with over 7 million pounds of machinery on display. The only part directly involving Trump will reportedly be a soldier handing the president an American flag.
President Trump’s been looking forward to this — essentially a big birthday party — for a long time, almost a decade in the making. Understandably, this has been the only thing he has been willing to openly discuss with the press. He was at the White House taking questions on the matter, and this time he even answered more than he was asked.
Gone were the moments where he called mere questions about his random Wall Street nickname TACO. This time, Trump was telling the press how huge the entire ordeal is expected to be. That’s where Trump just went on a tangent and started issuing threats to anyone who might be thinking about protesting. He said they’ll be met with “very heavy force” if they dare to exercise their First Amendment rights.
Former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci saw that statement as illegal and expressed disdain on X, calling on Senate Majority Leader John Thune to stop being silent. Scaramucci challenged him, saying, “Grow a backbone John and reject fascism.”
Threatening state sponsored violence on citizens exercising their first amendment right. But @LeaderJohnThune is silent. Grow a backbone John and reject fascism. https://t.co/PDfaj0pVZP

Scaramucci has fallen on the wrong side of history many a time. He’s one of those aisle hoppers who seemingly speak with a forked tongue depending on which day it is and who is listening. He is right, though. The only way to stop this istration from going completely off the rails is calling out anything illegal and assuming every ridiculous thing Trump says is 100% fact. Especially now, considering how Trump already showed during the LA protests that he’s not particularly interested in respecting the law.
Authoritative regimes don’t just start one random morning. Neither is any country immune to such leadership. It always starts with one person; they convince people through half-truths, then they hire staff that do everything they say to stay in power. A military parade already sounds off, but using that as the day to trample on civic rights is more suggestive than it might reveal at first glance.
