Everyone has an opinion on matters that frankly, shouldn’t concern them — but here we are, and Melanie Martin, the ex-fiancée of the late singer Aaron Carter, has finally had enough.

Ever since Aaron’s untimely death in 2022, Melanie has found herself and her son at the center of a paternity scandal, fueled by whispers and outright claims undermining Prince’s lineage. Threats against her life and that of her son escalated to a point where silence was no longer an option. Melanie pointed out that her son is nearing the age where he can read and understand the venomous words thrown their way, prompting her decisive action to end the speculation once and for all. These struggles ultimately contributed to Aaron losing custody of Prince in 2022. Melanie had accused him of domestic violence and drug abuse, which led to the custody loss. His manager once revealed that Aaron was “terrified” of fully committing to rehab, fearing it might delay his reunion with his son. Tragically, just two months after losing custody, Aaron was found dead in his bathtub at his home in Lancaster, California that the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner would later deem accidental.

The reports stated that the entertainer drowned after taking alprazolam and inhaling compressed difluoroethane. The combination of these substances can be lethal, as alprazolam is a sedative that can cause drowsiness and impaired coordination while inhaling difluoroethane, a refrigerant, can lead to asphyxiation and cardiac arrhythmia. Authorities reported that Aaron, under the influence of these substances, “slipped under the water” and drowned. In the aftermath, Melanie has been a steadfast figure in their son’s life, who will soon turn three. It’s a tough gig, keeping the world at bay and teaching a young boy about the father he will never know beyond stories and songs.

Nick Carter, once a poster child for 90s pop idolatry with the Backstreet Boys, has recently been more prominent in the headlines for serious allegations of sexual assault.

Nick Carter rose to fame in the mid-1990s as a vocalist in the Backstreet Boys. The group, formed in 1993, became one of the most successful boy bands of all time, selling over 100 million records worldwide and delivering hit singles like I Want It That Way, Everybody (Backstreet’s Back), and As Long as You Love Me. Nick continues to navigate his career and remains very much alive, despite the mix-ups some may have had with his late brother, Aaron Carter.

The younger singer tragically ed away on Nov. 5, 2022. He was found deceased in his home in Lancaster, California. Aaron was 34 years old at the time of his death and his struggles with mental health issues and substance abuse were well-documented, which he openly discussed in public forums and interviews.

Now both the brothers are back in the spotlight with the release of the mini-docies, Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter. This series, released on May 27, 2024, delves into the complexities of Aaron and his brother’s lives, focusing particularly on the three sexual assault lawsuits filed against Nick. However, his legal team has been forceful in their defense, dismissing the allegations as “outrageous.”

What are the allegations against Nick Carter?

In December 2022, Shannon “Shay” Ruth, a woman with autism and cerebral palsy, filed a civil lawsuit against Nick, accusing him of raping her on a tour bus after a concert in Tacoma, Washington, in 2001, when she was 17 years old.

According to the lawsuit, Nick invited Ruth to him on the tour bus after a concert, where he allegedly gave her a “funny-tasting beverage” he called “VIP juice.” Ruth claims that he then took her to the bathroom, exposed himself, and demanded oral sex. She alleges that he then raped her, despite her pleas for him to stop, and infected her with HPV.

In response to the allegations, Carter’s attorney, Michael Holtz, denied the allegations, stating that “this claim about an incident that supposedly took place more than 20 years ago is not only legally meritless but also entirely untrue.” Holtz added that he was confident the accusations would be dismissed once the facts were presented.

This is not the first time Carter has faced sexual assault allegations. In 2017, Melissa Schuman, a former member of the girl group Dream, accused Carter of raping her in 2003 when she was 18, and he was 22. Carter denied the accusations, and the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office declined to prosecute due to the statute of limitations. Following the public accusations, more women came forward with allegations against Carter. Ashley Repp is the third woman to sue Carter in 2023.

In light of the recent success of Quiet on Set, Investigation Discovery and Max have announced another documentary, Fallen Idols, this time focusing on the controversies surrounding Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter and his late brother Aaron.

The cultural influence of the Backstreet Boys is something that cannot be denied – but in the years since the world famous boy band broke up singer, Nick Carter, has found himself at the center of a big controversy. Meanwhile, his brother who wasn’t a part of the boy band, but was famous as a singer and rapper in his own right, was supposedly struggling with mental health as well as substance abuse — he ultimately fell out with his brother before his untimely death.

The four part documentary, which is set to release over the course of two days, (May 27th and May 28th) is set to dive into the allegations made against Nick Carter, according to an article from Variety, this will be the crux of the series. While Nick is set to be the focal point, the docies will also touch on Aaron Carter’s view on his brother as well as the numerous troubles he was facing himself.

The allegations against Nick Carter

Multiple women have come forward to accuse Carter of sexual assault in the last couple of years, with one of the women saying she was 15 at the time she was assaulted by the singer. An article from 8 News Now reported that Carter filed a counterclaim refuting the woman’s story, as well as claiming the woman also had sex with his younger brother, Aaron.

A separate lawsuit was filed by another individual named Shannon Ruth, who alleges she was 17 when she was assaulted by Carter. Once again, the singer’s counterclaim refutes her story, stating that he doesn’t even recall meeting the individual. Yet another acc is Melissa Schumer, formerly a member of the girl group Dream. She claims that she was raped by Carter in 2003, according an article from Entertainment Weekly.

Carter has denied all of the allegations made against him, claiming that these individuals are trying to extort money out of him. Nick is currently in the process of countersuing his accs.

Aaron Carter

Before his ing in 2022, Aaron was struggling with mental health issues and a drug addiction. He’d also lost custody of his son over his drug use and domestic violence. During this period, Aaron came out in of the victims of his brother, rather than ing Nick. In fact, he was incredibly vocal when it came to calling out his brother, leading to lots of hate going his way, and a very public feud between the two brothers. However, the feud was ultimately cut short.

Aaron’s drug use would get the better of him eventually, as he was found unresponsive in his bathtub on November 5th 2022 by his housekeeper. Although the cause of his death was not immediately made public, it would later be revealed that Aaron had drowned after inhaling difluoroethane and taking alprazolam.

Aaron Carter was born into a big family. He had several older siblings, a few half-siblings, and a contentious relationship with nearly all of them.

Before Aaron was born, the Carters welcomed Nick (of Backstreet Boys fame), Bobbie Jean, and Leslie, whom the Carters lost back in 2012. In 1987, Aaron and his twin sister, Angel, were born, and they were later ed by two half-siblings — Ginger Lee Carter, who ed away earlier in 2023, and Kaden Carter, who is blessedly still alive.

In total, there were seven Carter siblings before time, struggles with substance abuse, and tragedy shaved those numbers down to only three. Aaron, BJ, Ginger, and Leslie are survived by their remaining siblings, Nick, Angel, and Kaden, along with their mother, Jane Eleonora Schneck, and their children and former partners. Aaron, for his part, had a young child with former fiancée Melanie Martin. His son recently turned two years old.

Fans are furious that The 64th Annual Grammys ceremony did not include Aaron Carter in the “In Memoriam” segment of its televised broadcast.

According to E! News, the late singer/rapper’s fans flocked to social media with scathing criticism of The Recording Academy’s failure to honor the late star. 

MelindaWEG pointed out that Carter had released two multi-platinum albums in his heyday, and said she was shocked that he was not mentioned.

Others organized their own touching tribute to Carter on Twitter. GingerMadisonxx posted a poignant image of him performing on stage and a still photo of white roses.

DirtyDiana_123 tweeted a monochrome portrait of the singer with a thoughtful tribute, while slamming the Grammy’s for its failure to honor him.

Backstreet Boys member and father of three, Nick Carter, is being sued for allegations of rape and sexual assault in connection with a 17-year-old minor. 

Shannon Ruth, now 39, came forth with her statement on a Facebook Live live-stream today alongside her attorney Mark J. Boskovich of Corsiglia McMahon & Allard. In a detailed recounting of the incident, Ruth claims that in 2001, Carter brought her onto the band’s tour bus following a Backstreet Boys concert and raped her. 

Ruth had been waiting to meet Carter in an autograph line. After securing her signature, Carter allegedly invited her onto the tour bus and offered her a “red-colored drink” he called “VIP juice,” according to Page Six. “After he raped me, I him calling me a ‘re****ed bitch’ and grabbing me and leaving bruises on my arm.” She was a virgin at the time.

Ruth, who is neurodivergent and lives with cerebral palsy, says that she’s spent the last 21 years filled with “pain, confusion, frustration, shame, and self-harm that are a direct result of Nick Carter raping me.”

“Even though I’m autistic and live with cerebral palsy, I believe that nothing has affected me more or had a more lasting impact on my life than what Nick Carter did and said to me.”

According to Boskovich, Ruth not only wishes to be identified by name, but hopes her bravery will help other sexual assault survivors come forward with their testimony. “Just because Nick Carter is a celebrity does not mean that he is excused from his crimes,” she said. “I am a survivor and always will be.”

Carter has a long history of sexual assault allegations that extend into well into 2002, the year following Ruth’s aforementioned encounter with the boy-band member. 

Former pop singer and member of the girl-group Dream, Melissa Schuman, alleged in a lengthy, now-deleted blog post from 2017 that Carter performed nonconsensual oral sex on her in 2002, and forced her to do the same to him. She claims he repeatedly whispered “’Don’t worry. I won’t tell anybody,” in response to her complaints. By her recounting, he then forced her onto the bed and raped her. 

Carter fervently denied Schuman’s allegations, saying he was never led to believe that their interactions were anything but consensual, according to Insider.

“I am shocked and saddened by Ms. Schuman’s accusations,” he said, “Melissa never expressed to me while we were together or at any time since that anything we did was not consensual. We went on to record a song and perform together, and I was always respectful and ive of Melissa both personally and professionally. This is the first that I am hearing about these accusations, nearly two decades later. It is contrary to my nature and everything I hold dear to intentionally cause someone discomfort or harm.”

Carter was never criminally charged for Schuman’s allegations of rape.

The boy-band member recently suffered the loss of his younger brother, Aaron Carter, who died on Nov. 5. He opened up about the situation on his Instagram, calling his relationship with Aaron “complicated.”

Nick Carter has not yet responded to Shannon Ruth’s allegations of rape and sexual assault.

Former Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter announced that he launched a mental health fund with his sister, Angel, in memory of their younger brother, Aaron Carter, after he ed away on Nov. 5. All donations will go towards a children’s mental health organization that the Carter brothers were involved with for years.

Nick and Angel announced on their Instagram stories that they have set up a donation fund for those who want to honor their brother and help others at the same time. Nick thanked fans for their overwhelming since Aaron’s ing and said that he wanted to launch a donation fund in his memory.

“Very grateful for the outpour of love and for my brother. In his memory, a donation fund has been started to benefit @OnOurSleevesOfficial, an important children’s mental health organization helping families across America.” 

Meanwhile, Angel said that she and her family felt overwhelmed by the ongoing love and since her brother’s death and continued to advocate for the importance of mental health.

“My family and I are overwhelmed by all the love and that we have been shown over the past week since Aaron’s ing. The amazing memories you’ve shared of Aaron have brought a smile to my face in an incredibly dark time.”

“Mental health is so unbelievably important. It’s not talked about enough and is so often overlooked. Mental illness leads to so many different problems within your life and can result in serious issues like addiction. In honor of Aaron, a donation fund has been set up to benefit @OnOurSleevesOfficial, an important children’s mental health organization helping families across America.”

Nick’s representatives told TMZ that all the collected funds would immediately go to the children’s mental health organization. The funds would help provide funding for educational content and lesson plans for schools and organizations. At the same time, they’re paying it forward by helping others in the community.

“By honoring Aaron, you help Nick, Angel, and their family’s commitment of helping others.”

On Our Sleeves is an American organization, whose goal is to break the stigma of children’s mental health. They aim to provide educational resources, as well as connect struggling families to trusted resources. It was also an organization that Aaron served as ambassador and one that Nick heavily ed for years.

Aaron Carter was found dead in his California home at age 34. Up to this point, it’s still currently unknown what was the cause of death, but reports say that he was found drowned in his bathtub. Nick has itted that he and his brother had a complicated relationship, yet he still loves him.

There’s an old adage in show business that you have to strike while the iron’s hot. That missive gets murkier when someone dies. Actress Hilary Duff went hard at Ballast Books for doing just that with Aaron Carter – rushing out a memoir quickly after his death.

Duff and Carter are both former Disney actors and they actually dated for a while. She said the rushed release of Aaron Carter: An Incomplete Story of an Incomplete Life was simply in bad taste.

“It’s really sad that within a week of Aaron’s death there’s a publisher that seems to be recklessly pushing a book out to capitalize on this tragedy without taking appropriate time or care to fact check the validity of his work,” she said in a statement shared by E! News.

She added that releasing the book now shows the company’s obvious monetary motivations. “To water down Aaron’s life story to what seems to be unverified click-bait for profit is disgusting. In no way do I condone shedding any light on what is so obviously an uninformed, heartless, money grab.”

Earlier this week, Duff shared a tribute to Carter on Instagram.

Carter’s team also spoke out against the book. “In the few short days following our dear friend’s ing we have been trying to grieve and process while simultaneously having to deal with obscenely disrespectful and unauthorized releases. This is a time for mourning and reflection not heartless money grabs and attention seeking.”

Author Andy Symonds spent three years working with Carter and interviewing him for the book. Carter died on Nov. 5; the book comes out on Nov. 15. Symonds defended his reasons for publishing in a recent Facebook post.

Carter’s book features a number of showbiz stories. Ballast recently shared an excerpt about a night the “That’s How I Beat Shaq” singer spent with Michael Jackson, according to NME. Carter said he spent the night at Jackson’s Neverland Ranch and found the singer “crouched at the end of his bed in his underwear, apparently sleepwalking.”

He said he shook Jackson awake and told him to go back to bed. Very exciting stuff, apparently.

In the wake of his tragic and untimely ing, teen heartthrob Aaron Carter is survived by his on-again, off-again fiancée Melanie Martin, and the couple’s one-year-old son Prince. But to make things even more difficult, Martin says that Carter’s fans have been making her life a living hell since he died.

According to TMZ, Martin has been subject to constant harassment and threats by fans who blame her for the 34-year-old singer’s death. Carter was found dead in a bathtub in his Lancaster, California home last week, though the exact cause of death currently remains unclear.

Some fans have evidently become so brazen that they’re even showing up on the property and peering into windows, terrifying Martin, who is in the process of moving her things out. And, apparently, the situation has become so dire that even an ongoing police presence has not deterred them.

We’re told Melanie called police to the house to keep the peace. Due to all the harassment directed at her, she wanted to ensure there’d be no issues while she was at Aaron’s house.

Our sources say Melanie was retrieving baby items, diapers and clothes for their son, Prince, along with some of her things … and now Aaron’s fans are accusing her of stealing his possessions, which we’re told is NOT the case.

Carter had supposedly been dealing with unruly fans for years prior to his death, and Martin says she finally understands what he had been going through, now that she is on the receiving end of the unwanted attention.

Many are currently mourning the loss of rapper and artist Aaron Carter who was found dead in his home on Saturday, aged only 34 years old. It was in this year that the Backstreet Boys invited him on tour with them as one of their opening acts. At last night’s concert, band member Kevin Richardson was recorded speaking to the crown about the devastating news.

“We all grew up together. We’ve been through highs and lows, up and downs. You guys have been through it with us, we’ve been through it with you. Tonight, we’ve got a little bit of heavy hearts because we lost one of our family yesterday. We just wanted to find a moment in our show to recognize him. Nick’s little brother Aaron Carter ed away yesterday, and, he’s a part of our family and we thank you guys for all the love, all your well wishes, and all your .”

During this speech to the crowd, there was a picture of Aaron on the big screen which read, Aaron Carter 1987-2022. Nick appeared to wipe tears from his eyes as the other band came to hug him. They went on to sing one of their newer numbers, “Breathe”. The band has been continuing on their DNA world tour which was halted back in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Nick had already addressed his brother’s death on Instagram earlier in the day, sharing photos of the two of them growing up together, acknowledging the struggles his brother had faced, and finishing with, “Now you can finally have the peace you could never find here on earth….I love you baby brother.”

It is not yet fully determined what the cause of death was, as it is too soon for the autopsy to have been released. Our thoughts are with his friends and family right now including his brother Nick and Aaron’s son, Prince.
