Most of the U.K. likely thought that they had seen the last of the Sussexes. After Prince Harry lost his court appeal earlier this year it looked like he and his wife, Meghan Markle would never return to the country. But unfortunately for them, there is one rather important event neither of them can afford to miss.

We’re talking about the biannual Invictus Games of course. The international sporting competition for wounded vets was founded by Harry and so far he hasn’t missed a single one. The next one isn’t until 2027 but there’s one major problem for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, you’ve probably already guessed where this is going, but the next Invictus Game will be held in Birmingham (and yes, the one in the U.K. not the one in Alabama).

A headache for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

It seems fate has a cruel sense of humor. Just when the Sussexes thought they were done with the U.K., they get pulled back in. They’re stuck between a rock and a hard place at the moment. After his court defeat Harry lamented over the fact he couldn’t imagine a scenario where it would be safe for his wife and children to visit. 

So either they don’t return to the U.K. and refuse to attend arguably the most important project Harry has been a part of, or they do attend but then they are potentially put at risk without their security.

2027 marks the eighth Invictus Games ceremony and Harry and Meghan have been attending them as a couple for a long time now. The pair appeared publicly for the first time at the Toronto games in 2017, then again at the Sydney games just after their marriage in 2018. The point is they haven’t missed a single one.

Will the Sussexes attend the Birmingham games?

It’s hard to imagine them skipping out on the Invictus Games, even if they are set to be held in the U.K. next. While they may be avoiding the country after the Prince’s court loss, these games are way too important to Harry for him to not attend. As for Meghan, she’s been ive of her husband and the games so it’s likely she’ll attend, but then again, she did leave the Vancouver games early this year, so perhaps it’ll just be the Prince on his own in 2027.

Another thing that’s worth bearing in mind is that 2027 is quite a way off. Who knows how much the relationship between Harry, Meghan and the royal family will have changed by then. It’s two years away, perhaps things will have cooled down by then? Yeah, that seems like a long shot, but stranger things have happened.

Prince William may not be interested in mending his relationship with Prince Harry, but he’s still looking to make some royal alliances. It turns out the future King’s newest ally was formerly quite close with Harry and Meghan.

The Prince of Wales has reportedly formed an alliance with Princess Eugenie over their shared ion for protecting the environment. According to Hello! Magazine the two cousins are focused on marine conservation and it seems their shared ion has prompted them to form an alliance.

Princess Eugenie, who is the daughter of Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew, has always been incredibly vocal when it comes to protecting the oceans. In a recent post to Instagram she reiterated the importance of the ocean, the caption reads, “The ocean is the greatest wonder of the world. Celebrating @unworldoceansday today and everyday.”

As for Prince William, he has been heavily involved in all kinds of environmental projects, just like his father, King Charles. The Prince has launched significant projects such as the Earthshot Prize, an annual awards ceremony which celebrates contributions towards environmentalism. Conservation is never far from William’s mind, most recently the Prince gave a speech on the importance of the ocean at the Blue Economy and Finance Forum while he was in Monaco.

Her family are thought to be Harry and Meghan’s final link to the rest of the royal family so if they do grow distant then the Sussexes will be well and truly cut off from the rest of the family. 

With William and Eugenie forming an alliance it seems like Harry and his family have been pushed out of the picture. The future King has shown no interest in reconciling with his brother and this new coalition with Eugenie suggests the rest of the royal family may feel a similar way.

Every maternity dress and every baby video becomes ‘evidence’ for strangers obsessively trying to prove your pregnancies were a sham. It is sickening and cruel.”

What Bouzy is additionally concerned about is how this “sustained conspiracy harassment” ain’t some fluke that can be ignored. He is afraid for Meghan, who has shared about the suicidal thoughts she survived while she lived as a senior royal during her first pregnancy. “One doesn’t have to stretch to see a link between that despair and the ceaseless torrent of vilification she endured,” Bouzy said, adding, “Beyond the personal toll on Meghan and Harry, there’s a broader societal damage to consider. When conspiracy theories like these flourish, they corrode our collective grasp on reality and decency.”

So far, Meghan and Harry have not addressed the barrage of insults, accusations, and drama aimed at the video. Though they have stepped down as senior royals, their method of dealing with controversies still matches that of the Royal family – no need to comment on it unless there is no other option left.
