An Ocala, Florida, nurse, sexually abusing her 15-year-old stepson. The Florida Department of Health revoked her nursing license on April 25, 2025, citing a lack of good judgment and moral character.
The alleged incident occurred in July 2024 during the teenager’s summer visit with his father and Yates. According to Yates’ arrest affidavit, “The child victim was hanging out with his stepmother while she was taking care of his younger siblings,” and while his dad, Yates’ husband, worked late at night.
Around 11 p.m., the affidavit adds, Yates, 35, and the boy “began relaxing on the couch, ‘hitting’ a THC cartridge together while playing a video game.” Eventually, they decided to watch a movie.

According to the affidavit, Yates told the boy she was “horny” and “bored” and then engaged in sex acts with the child. The boy told police she had made sexual jokes the week prior, at one point, reportedly called him her “little boy toy” while they were together at the gym.
The boy’s father came home early from work that night at around 1 a.m. and caught Yates and his son in the act. His son fled the home, while Yates told her husband his son looked like a younger version of him.
Her husband later drove the boy to his grandparents’ house that night, telling him he “ruined” his life. Yates’ arrest affidavit states he stopped off for a six-pack of beer and pounded several beers while driving his son to his grandparents’ house.
Despite witnessing the incident, the father did not immediately report it. A concerned family member later ed authorities anonymously, prompting an investigation by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
“She lacks the good judgment and moral character”
Florida police arrested Yates in November 2024 and charged her with felony lewd or lascivious battery involving a minor aged 12 to 16. She pleaded not guilty through her attorney in December 2024. Authorities scheduled a pretrial conference for February 4, 2025, with jury selection set to begin on March 10, 2025, Ocala News reported
The Florida Department of Health emphasized the importance of trust and moral character in the nursing profession, stating that Yates’ alleged actions were incompatible with the responsibilities of a ed nurse.
“Nurses are placed in a position of trust,” the Florida DOH said, announcing Yates’ nursing license was revoked in the state. “Therefore, it is imperative that they demonstrate good judgment and good moral character.”
The DOH added, “Ms. Yates’ decision to engage in sexual activity with a minor child and/or her decision to allow a child to engage her in oral and penetrative sex indicates that she lacks the good judgment and moral character necessary to be a ed nurse.”
