When can ‘Tulsa King’ viewers get a first look at the turbulent second season?

Season 2 of 'Tulsa King' has been plagued by setbacks. Will the second chapter of Stallone's mafia series ever see the light of day?

Tulsa King, one of TV’s most underrated crime dramas.

The show’s first season was co-written and co-created by two Acadamy Award-nominated screenwriters: Taylor Sheridan, who is also the creator of Yellowstone, and Terence Winter, who created Boardwalk Empire and wrote for The Sopranos. That is some mouth-watering storytelling power right there.

Sly plays Dwight “The General” Manfredi, a Mafia capo, like a captain, responsible for overseeing a small crew of soldiers. After 25 years in prison, he returns to New York expecting a reward only to be assigned to the small town of Tulsa, Oklahoma, where organized crime is basically nonexistent. Determined to make something of himself in his twilight years, Dwight decides to establish an operation and bring chaos and violence to the once peaceful southern community.

Will there be a Tulsa King season 2?

Generally well-received and beating even Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon in streaming numbers for new shows in 2022, Tulsa King was renewed for a second season at Paramount Plus shortly after the show’s premiere in November of that year. A few months after, Winter left the showrunner position due to creative differences with Sheridan and other commitments taking up his time, Deadline reported. He is still the show’s executive producer.

The Boardwalk Empire architect had previously revealed Sheridan’s initial plan for the show, which placed Kansas City at the center of the action and gave Sly’s character slightly different contours. “In his version, our character Dwight was a 75-year-old kind of low-level bag man in the mob. He had never been to prison, he didn’t have a family and he got sent out to Kansas City as a reward for a lifetime of service,” Winter told Deadline in 2022. As of January 2024, no announcement has been made regarding Tulsa King‘s new showrunner.

When is season 2 of Tulsa King coming out?

There’s no word yet on when Sheridan plans to release the second outing for Mafia middleman Dwight Manfredi. There were when or where Tulsa King‘s second season will be produced.

Is Sylvester Stallone coming back for season 2 of Tulsa King?

via Paramount Plus

Sylvester Stallone is expected to come back to Tulsa King for a second season. The veteran actor could be a big reason why the show had to set up show elsewhere.

The Paramount Plus crime drama was Stallone’s first-ever television series, a change he found challenging. “It’s brutal, compared to filmmaking,” the Oscar-nominated actor told Variety in 2022 and didn’t sound very enthusiastic about the future of the show. “Can they shoot it in my home in Palm Beach? That’d be nice. I talked to my wife about it. If she comes along with the kids to the set to visit, perhaps. But it’s a big decision, it really is.”

Possible release window for the new season of Tulsa King

Right now, without a showrunner, and with a reluctant star and busy producer, it’s not looking great for Tulsa King. Paramount Plus will certainly be expecting new episodes soon, but it’s been over a year since the show premiered and there have been no official updates on the state of the second season.

The last we heard from Stallone was that the Writers’ Strike during the summer of 2023 had had a major impact on Tulsa King. “It’s definitely affecting work because we can’t move forward with a lot of projects, especially Tulsa King,” the 77-year-old told Newsweek back in May.

Don’t expect season 2 of Tulsa King to come out in 2024.
